Top 10 Selling Scooters in August, 2017

Collectively two-wheeler scooter segment sold nearly a total of 28,90,943 units in FY 2017-18 for the period of five months and increased growth by 18.27 percent higher than as compared to motorcycle and moped segments captured 7.89 percent and -8.60 percent respectively year on year (YoY).

Two-wheeler scooters loaded with automatic transmission system, good fuel efficiency, powertrain technologies and affordable prices. It will benefit the urban people across the country.  The hassle and free maintenance ride being offered by two-wheeler scooters to be beneficial for conventional motorcycle buyers in the rural segments. Additionally, improvements in the standard of female education and employment opportunities across rural and urban segments have directly influenced the sales of two-wheeler scooter segments.

The Automobile Giant, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) captured a market share of about 59.22 percent in the period of April-August in FY 17- 18. The automobile manufacturer is now focusing to capture the rural segment in India with its newly introduced the 110cc Cliq.

110cc Cliq is one of the most affordable scooters in India being offered by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI). According to HMSI management, Honda Cliq is available for the sale nearly at a price of Rs 42,000, it directly competes with 100cc mass commuter motorcycles, the company builds the scooter particularly for the semi-urban and rural segments across the country. However, Honda has not revealed its targeting figures for Cliq110cc in FY 2017-18, it showing encourage level to drive the consumer acceptance in India.

The most selling scooter Honda Activa secured number one position in the two-wheeler segment. It sold a total of 335,595 units of scooters under its Activa brand across India in FY 2017-18. It includes three models namely Activa 125 (three variants), Activa 4G and Activa i.  It captured a growth of 19.52 percent in the duration of August 2017, which shows the outstanding performance in the scooter segments growth.

The TVS Jupiter, which is positioned the second largest selling scooter in India and sold nearly 81,277 units in FY 17-18, as compared to previous year. It has seen that a growth of 57.12 percent Year on Year (YoY).

Top Selling Scooters in August, 2017

Maestro, being offered by Hero MotoCorp’s is to compete with TVS Jupiter, has now positioned third place in the two-wheeler segment. MotoCorp’s sold 43,804 units of Maestro in August 2017, up with 17.13 percent Year on Year.

Honda Deo, placed in 4th position and sold nearly 39,964 units, which has seen a growth 12.64 percent YoY. Two-wheeler scooter, Deo, has been specifically used by the college going students. The company reported that a hike in sales of Deo when the new college session starts rather than the festive season. 

The Suzuki Access 125,  is the one oldest scooter being offered by the Honda Activa, in the two-wheeler scooter segment. It secured the fifth position in the month of August and sold 39,550 units FY 17-18 (up an impressive 58.81 percent YoY).

Yamaha's Top Selling Scooter, Fascino positioned sixth place in the two-wheeler segment. This scooter 21,628 units in August 2017 along with a growth of 14.58 percent YoY.

Introduction about Hero Maestro:- The Hero MotoCorp is a India's largest two wheeler manufacturer company, which launched their new gear-less scooter known as Maestro. With female oriented scooter, the Hero has always marketed their pleasure, similarly for male riders the company has made some changes in the scooter known as Hero Maestro.

Designs and Styles

In terms of design and style, the TVS Jupiter special edition is a smart looking scooter in automatic scooter series. TVS loaded many features to make the Jupiter attractive like fabulous design, pilot lamps, telescopic front forks, gas-charged rear suspension, largest lag space in the segment and LED tail light. Also, it has an under seat storage, a mobile charger option, tubeless tyres, stylish instrument console, viscous paper filter and standard electric start. Overall the design of the Jupiter is quite smart and attractive.


The Hero Maestro got a bigger size, which gives a mature look to the scooter. The headlight looks very attractive along with black colored cowl and rear view mirrors in dual colored the style of this scooter. It looks like premium and sporty when seen from the front. It has angular tail light with clear lens indicator and short mudguard with reflective light. Overall, this Maestro scooter provides a macho look.

TVS Jupiter is available in six shades - Matte Beige, Sparkling Silver, Titanium Gray, Mercury White, Midnight Black and Volcano Red. TVS is offering only one variant of the Jupiter scooter with kick and self-start option.


Hero Maestro Deluxe is also available in six shades - Panther Black Met, Pearl Fadeless White, Force Silver Met, Pearl Harvest Green, Candy Blazing Red and Maestro Blue Metallic. The Hero is also offering Maestro scooters in only one variant with kick and self-start option.

Both scooter TVS Jupiter and Hero Maestro have the same safety features as locked manually, foot rests, Combi-brake system, anti-slip texture of the floor area and foldable pillion foot-pegs add give more safety to the rider. Both the scooters have standard suspensions that give extra confidence to the riders.

Verdict

TVS Jupiter & Hero Maestro, both scooters have different designs and styles, but both are intentionally made for man. Both these scooters provide dynamic design, comfort, standard features and refined engine that makes them a good choice for the buyers. The Jupiter is faster than Maestro But it gives you higher fuel efficiency. Both products provide a good service network.

Mahindra Gusto unveiled in Eastern and Southern Market of India.

Mahindra Gusto is among the most anticipated scooters in the industry which boasts a 109.6cc engine crafted in complete aluminium housing. This engine generates 8BHP of power at 8400RPM while the torque figure follows 8.5Nm at 7000RPM. The scooter follows the footsteps of the elder siblings from the company's bench. The design and dynamics of the vehicle are not that attractive that the competing contenders are wearing, but they are impressive. The boomerang shaped headlight and diverse colored front grill makes the scooter look distinct and adds the feel of glam to the overall appearance.


Gusto holds wide seating area and broad front platform to holds good amount of luggage. Mahindra has not worked on the graphics scene of the scooter as it does not have any such stuff. Still, the ride has a good character and feel. The suspension and brakes indulged in this scooter are efficient enough for city traffic. Both front and rear wheels are crafted with 130mm drum brakes. The suspension unit at the front is telescopic while the rear houses a monoshock. The competition for the Gusto is fierce and will be facing the same from Honda, Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp vehicles, which are having well established scooters like Activa, Maestro and Access etc.
