Top 10 Selling Scooters in August, 2017

Collectively two-wheeler scooter segment sold nearly a total of 28,90,943 units in FY 2017-18 for the period of five months and increased growth by 18.27 percent higher than as compared to motorcycle and moped segments captured 7.89 percent and -8.60 percent respectively year on year (YoY).

Two-wheeler scooters loaded with automatic transmission system, good fuel efficiency, powertrain technologies and affordable prices. It will benefit the urban people across the country.  The hassle and free maintenance ride being offered by two-wheeler scooters to be beneficial for conventional motorcycle buyers in the rural segments. Additionally, improvements in the standard of female education and employment opportunities across rural and urban segments have directly influenced the sales of two-wheeler scooter segments.

The Automobile Giant, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) captured a market share of about 59.22 percent in the period of April-August in FY 17- 18. The automobile manufacturer is now focusing to capture the rural segment in India with its newly introduced the 110cc Cliq.

110cc Cliq is one of the most affordable scooters in India being offered by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI). According to HMSI management, Honda Cliq is available for the sale nearly at a price of Rs 42,000, it directly competes with 100cc mass commuter motorcycles, the company builds the scooter particularly for the semi-urban and rural segments across the country. However, Honda has not revealed its targeting figures for Cliq110cc in FY 2017-18, it showing encourage level to drive the consumer acceptance in India.

The most selling scooter Honda Activa secured number one position in the two-wheeler segment. It sold a total of 335,595 units of scooters under its Activa brand across India in FY 2017-18. It includes three models namely Activa 125 (three variants), Activa 4G and Activa i.  It captured a growth of 19.52 percent in the duration of August 2017, which shows the outstanding performance in the scooter segments growth.

The TVS Jupiter, which is positioned the second largest selling scooter in India and sold nearly 81,277 units in FY 17-18, as compared to previous year. It has seen that a growth of 57.12 percent Year on Year (YoY).

Top Selling Scooters in August, 2017

Maestro, being offered by Hero MotoCorp’s is to compete with TVS Jupiter, has now positioned third place in the two-wheeler segment. MotoCorp’s sold 43,804 units of Maestro in August 2017, up with 17.13 percent Year on Year.

Honda Deo, placed in 4th position and sold nearly 39,964 units, which has seen a growth 12.64 percent YoY. Two-wheeler scooter, Deo, has been specifically used by the college going students. The company reported that a hike in sales of Deo when the new college session starts rather than the festive season. 

The Suzuki Access 125,  is the one oldest scooter being offered by the Honda Activa, in the two-wheeler scooter segment. It secured the fifth position in the month of August and sold 39,550 units FY 17-18 (up an impressive 58.81 percent YoY).

Yamaha's Top Selling Scooter, Fascino positioned sixth place in the two-wheeler segment. This scooter 21,628 units in August 2017 along with a growth of 14.58 percent YoY.

KTM Upcoming Bikes in India 2018

KTM, this brand is known for its high-performance dirt and adventure bikes. Recently, in the previous year, the company was launched a couple of new sport bike models, and, now, in this current year, is planning to launch some sports bikes - KTM 1290 Super Duke R and KTM 690 Duke. Here is a list of upcoming KTM Bikes in India 2017:

KTM Duke 125

KTM Duke, just the name is enough to justify the aggressiveness of this motorbike. New KTM Duke 125 (2017) will come featuring a more sharp design language than its current version. It will arrive featuring a single cylinder 125cc DOHC fuel injected engine, which is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 15hp along with an all-new side-mounted exhaust. Apart from it, the beast will be blessed with a new sub-frame, an unconventional ignition key spot, a new brake lever, conspicuously redesigned instrument cluster, freshly shaped pillion seat and a cowl-integrated grab handle for the pillion rider. This time there is also a mind-blowing feature of MY RIDE multimedia system embedded in the bike, which will allow the rider to synchronize the TFT color display with his/her smartphone.

KTM 390 Adventure, a new adventure-oriented motorcycle from the Austrian bike maker, KTM. Expected to get the shared powertrain from the familiar KTM Duke 390, a power-packed rocket motorcycle, the 390 Adventure is confirmed to launch officially. However, the exact launch date isn’t revealed yet. Moreover, the equipped powertrain will also be a tuned unit to perform likewise the adventure motorcycle need to climb on and run onto the uneven, rugged and rough surfaces. Albeit, the said 373cc single-pot motor is rated to churn out the maximum of 43.5 PS power. As the 390 Adventure will not mean to be a soft off-roader, it is likely to come furnished with the endurable hardware components like the bigger spoked wheels, knobby tyres, upswept exhaust, petal discs, and long travel front suspension to offer superior performance.

KTM 690 Duke

KTM 1050 Adventure, a litre class adventure motorcycle is also expected to be added to the Indian lineup. In the global market, the tourer is the successor of the KTM’s prominent adventure motorcycle, the 990 adventure and will be powered by a 1050cc 75 degree V-twin LC8 engine. The engine is claimed to exhale 95 horsepower comparatively lesser than the other available in the market. Obtaining a clean and minimalistic design, the motorcycle will be furnished with numerous promising hardware components to perform harder onto the harsh and uneven terrains. The cycle parts include spoke wheels, KTM’s Ride Model technology to adjust slippage in the rear wheel. Suspension duties will be taken care by the WP suspension setup while the braking will be done by the Brembo supplied reliable units on the both wheels. Moreover, a host of optional features like a GPS, alarm system, heated seat, and grips are also speculated to be employed on the KTM 1050 Adventure. That can make in the Indian market sometime this year. 

KTM 1190 Adventure R

The 2017 KTM 1190 Adventure R features a massive new headlight setup, which is supposedly incorporating company’s lean-angle technology into a light at the corners. The body part around the fuel tank of the bike has been changed in a more elegant way. The windscreen of the bike also seems to be angular and adjustable.Besides this, the biggest change we can see in the bike is, the model is riding on cast wheels, which uses spoke rims (the Euro-spec 1050 Adventure, is an exception to the spoke rule). The company is also making different updates in various machines which include things like a smaller windscreen and standard crash bars.

KTM 1290 Super Adventure

KTM in the upcoming year is going to launch an all-new range of sport touring motorbikes, which includes new KTM Super Adventure R, S, and T. The upcoming Super Adventure R will replace the current 1190 Adventure R, The Super Adventure S will replace the current 1190 Adventure, and the Super Adventure T  will replace the running 1290 Super Adventure. All of the upcoming bikes will be seen powered by the same 1,301cc LC8 V-twin engine, just like the current 1290 Super Adventure sportbike. The engine of these superbikes is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 160 horsepower along with 103 NM of peak torque. Additional specifications of these bikes will include Bosch Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC) system, complete with cornering ABS and cornering traction control.

The KTM 1290 is a superbike that was showcased by the company at the Auto Expo and scheduled to launch it in 2016. The KTM 1290 Super Duke R will be powered by a 1301cc liquid-cooled and twin-cylinder engine. It looks great and carries a sporty riding stance. The design is very sharp and sporty, the side profile of the bike is nicely done with scoops, while the angular headlight gives an aggressive look to the bike. The KTM 1290 Super Duke R would get WP Pressurized-gas central rear shock and anti-lock braking system. The braking duties will be handled by front and rear disc brake. It is expected that the KTM 1290 Super Duke R to be launched in 2017. It could be priced around Rs 15.00 lakh.
